10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Usain Bolt
1. Usain Bolt has scoliosis.
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine, and it did hamper his performance when he was younger. He began working with Coach Glen Mills in 2004, and the coach devised an exercise regime to strengthen his core, so that his back would cease to be an issue. Mills also helped Bolt improve his running techniques, and he encouraged Bolt to run longer distances. When they first started working together, Bolt had wanted to concentrate on the 100 m dash.
Bolt is not the only world-class athlete with scoliosis. Other athletes with the condition include the Romanian Olympic gymnast Alexandra Marinescu and the US Olympic swimmer Jennifer Thompson.
