Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. Cassius had four brothers and a sister. In 1964 he changed his name to Muhammad Ali, in part due to the proselytizing of Malcolm X. Ali was married four times to Sonji Roi in 1964, Belinda Boyd in 1967, Veronica Porsche in 1977, and Yolanda Williams in 1986. Ali had seven children altogether: Maryum, Jamillah, Rasheda, and Muhammad Ali Jr., were born to Belinda; Hana, and Laila, born to Veronica; and Asaad Amin, born to Yolanda. Ali also had two children, daughters Miya and Khaliah, that were the result of extramarital relationships.
