From the fast-pace in the business world of computer software to the fast pace of professional basketball, Steven Anthony Ballmer is used to being the number one figure in either sphere. Known as Steve, he was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 24, 1956, to a father from Switzerland and mother from Belarus. After childhood in well-to-do Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb, he graduated with high marks and honors, topping off his school career with an honors degree from Harvard College in 1977. In 1980, he became the first business manager hired by Bill Gates, who was a fellow student at Harvard and went on to start Microsoft, which would become the most influential company involved in the personal computer industry. In 1990, Ballmer married Connie Synder and they have three sons. In 2000, Ballmer was named CEO of Microsoft, a position he would hold until 2014. In August of that year, Ballmer became the owner – for a quoted price of two billion – of the Los Angeles Clippers.
