Controversial and accomplished, Donald Trump is perhaps the best known real estate entrepreneur in the United States. Born Donald John Trump, Sr. on June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York, he is the son of real estate developer Fred Trump. He is the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts, as well as the president and chairman of the Trump Organization, which was formerly his father’s real estate firm. As of 2013, he is married to his third wife, Melania, who he married in 2005. Trump’s previous wives were Ivana Trump, who was his wife from 1977 to 1992; and Marla Maples, to who he was married from 1993 to 1999. He has five children: Donald Jr., Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany and Barron.
Soon after completing his studies at Fordham University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he started working at his father’s real estate firm, Elizabeth Trump and Sons. The company was renamed The Trump Organization when he assumed control of it. Starting from middle-class rental housing, Trump eventually branched out to larger, commercial projects, which included hotels and casinos. Most recently, in July 2012, he opened a $150 million Scottish golf course, which attracted opposition from environmentalists who decried the disappearance of the site’s beautiful sand dunes. Trump is not just restricted to real estate. Over the years he has built his name as a licensing brand for a wide range of products that include mattresses and men’s fragrances. Trump also rakes in dough from his speaking engagements, books and his popular Apprentice reality TV series.
Based on his numerous ventures, Trump is estimated to have made approximately $60 million in 2012. As of September 2013, Forbes estimates his net worth at $3.5 billion.
